Should Marcus Browne have been given more of a chance at West Ham?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxa6P_5ZxXU

I would rather have kept Browne than Diananga myself.

......…...……...…...…...………………………...…..

This is an article by Terry Westley

I’ve been following events at the club quite closely and particularly those involving our youngsters.

And I can’t let the moment pass without commenting on Marcus Browne’s departure to Middlesbrough.

His reported fee of around £200k is no big surprise because he has yet to make a first team appearance and there could be a lesson learned in that direction by the Irons.

Some other clubs are quite clever in giving their better young players 10 or a dozen first team outings which immediately elevates the price when they look to move them on.

Clubs want to know they can hack it at that level and will see it as a bit of a gamble when untested youngsters join the club and thus the price is lower than it should be.

I understand the manager has decisions to make at this stage and he obviously felt Marcus is not going to pay a part in his plans.

That’s fair enough given the strength he has in midfield but I believe the boy every chance of becoming a very good player indeed.

He’s a quiet boy whose approach to the game is the direct opposite…he’s a powerful player who can explode past players.

And I think he’s very likely to become an important player at Middlesbrough over the next couple of years. I hope he can settle down in the area
.
I wish the lad every success. He has come out of a very tough east end background and battled for everything he has achieved so far so.

The boy will be now have a real chance to express himself and become the player we all hoped he’d become at West Ham.

Why would a RTI mean we want to get rid? He would hardly be the first...?

300k seems fuck all. Arsenal sold a young cb on loan at charlton last year for £8.5M!

Always liked the look of Browne, would of liked to see him go on loan to champ this season and then assess him next summer.

But good luck to him, as said below theres not many that we have regret letting go

I spoke to Geoff Pike years ago about Ray Houghton being released.

I thought Pike had been preferred to Houghton but he laughed and told me that John Lyall had chosen Paul Allen over Ray Houghton.

Top scorer in the reserves wasn't he as a midfielder? Didn't he get 45 minutes against Arsenal?

I’m still reeling from us letting Ray Houghton go! He went on to have a fantastic career - on the plus side shows the club does think about the players’ welfare and doesn’t get in there way

Elliot Lee should play against him, if that is any help.

Browne was not a lock to start in League One at Oxford. Not sure if are lighter there or not.

The rumour several weeks ago was Browne was going to Oxford United permanently this summer. Apparently Rio Ferdinand tipped off Jonathan Woodgate the new Middlesbrough manager that he thought the player was worth a gamble and this led to the move.
Karl Robinson matched Woodgate's offer to West Ham but wasn't surprised at the outcome. It will be interesting to see how far Browne goes in the game.
For what it's worth, (I know I know, Pelle is a top manager, and I'm a cunt) but I think Browne has more potential than Diangana.

Diangana did well when he came in but when he came back after a break was really poor.
That happens with young players but he needs to pick it up again. Pellegrini needs to decide whether going on loan is best for him

Did think that when Diangana struggled on his return it might have been a better plan to give Holland a run out just to look at him.
Same with Browne at the end of the previous season. As Moyes was going he seemed to prefer his Preston mate on the bench together with A Carroll

Point taken on blooding the youngsters to increase the price but "10 or a dozen first team outings " seems a bit excessive for someone not expected to be able to pull their weight in the foreseeable future at first team level.

I always liked what I saw when he played. The fee does seem a bit low to me & have we added a “sell on clause”? I doubt that we have, but if not, why not?

Yes...would have been good to see him in action...a few sub appearances to judge him...
Diangana had a few good games to begin with...but tailed off quickly...
